原文: SECTION 4 A LOCAL CASE HISTORY 1.THE CASE STUDY N. B This case study is fictitious. Particulars of the shipments described may not tatty with the actual situation but are intended as a framework for the questions and ensuing discussion. 1.1.1 Great Future Textiles Ltd (GREAT FUTURE) of Taipei is a vertically integrated textile and garment manufacturer and exporter. They are considering establishing an offshore manufacturing base in South East Asia and are looking at Thonoun, just north of Bangkok and Bandung, south east of Jakarta in Java. Their present shipping arrangements involve importing cotton from the U.S. Gulf (Houston) and synthetic yam from local sources in Taiwan The finished garments are then exported to Western Europe. 1.1.2 GREAT FUTURE have discovered a cheaper source of synthetic yarn originating from a new plant in Cliacap, south Java. However the logistics of transporting the Indonesian yarn to Taipei as well as the additional costs have caused them to delay any purchase arrangements pending closer study of the problem. 1.1.3 GREAT FUTURE are also looking at the possibility of using the sea/air option via Dubai for shipment of certain seasonal garment consignments to their consignees in Europe from Taipei. 1.1.4 Their current shipping arrangements are as follows: (a) Cotton in bails packed in 20 foot units is imported on GIF terms from Houston to Taipei over Kaohsiung. The carrier is Congress Container Line Inc. (CONGRESS). These 20 foot containers are delivered to the Taipei factory by road from Kaohsiung. (b) The finished garments are purchased by Modern Fashions Gmbh (MODERN) of Germany and exported on FOB term from Keelung to Dusseldorf via Rotterdam. MODERN nominates Continental Container Lines BV (CONTINENTAL) who have direct calls at Keelung and upon discharge at Rotterdam the garments are transported by rail to Dusseldorf. 40 foot units are used for this shipment 1.1.5 GREAT FUTURE nOW wishes to pay closer attention to its logistics and distribution policy with a view to better integration production runs and delivery deadlines. 1.2 QUESTIONS 1.2.1 Carry out a brief review of these arrangements giving proposed changes and your reasons. 1.2.2 Comment on GREAT FUTURE'S idea of relocating to Thailand or Indonesia from a transport and distribution point of view. 1.2.3 Assuming there was no direct service between Cilacap and Kaohsiung or Keelung synthetic yarn from Cilacap, on what terms and by which route. 1.2.4 Briefly state the advantages and disadvantages of the sea/air option Taipei/Dusseldorf via Dubai. 1.2.5 MODERN is setting up a JIF inventory control system.
